Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), also known as physiatry, is a broad medical specialty focused on restoring function and quality of life to individuals with physical impairments or disabilities. These conditions can result from injury, illness, or chronic disease. Physiatrists, the doctors who practice in this field, work to improve a person's quality of life by treating a wide range of musculoskeletal, neurological, and medical conditions.
How to become a physiatrist:
- 4 years of medical school
- 4 years of PM&R residency (which includes 1 year of a preliminary medicine, surgery, or transitional year program)
